Victoria Bartlett, the designer behind VPL, was nice enough to explain her inspiration for the fall collection, “I referenced Picasso’s women this season. It’s an anatomical voyage. The clothes are quite strong, so asked the artists to keep the look simple and healthy, to bring out the girls’ natural beauty.”

Indeed, the girls were fresh faced thanks to a mini-oxygen facial from Eileen Harcourt who expertly cleansed and massaged their skin before they sat for makeup. Once prepped, Romy Soleimani deftly applied the thinnest wisp of foundation with her favorite beauty sponge: “I love the Beauty Blender! I use it with everything, it’s pink and it makes me happy.”

Then the girls were off to Neil Moodie from Bumble and bumble for blowouts that left them with long, flowy hair and middle part that zagged back on a diagonal. “I lifted the roots a bit, used a large round brush to smooth the hair and finished up with a little hair powder to add dimension,” explained Neil.

Valentine’s Day:  A Beautiful Thing

I have zero interest in teddy bears, chocolates with mystery fillings (is that maple cream? blech), or poetic greeting cards covered in glitter. I do love flowers. (White peonies, please.) If you’re looking for an original way to show me some love on V-Day, I have a few ideas:

Nars The Love Set, $49, contains some of the best sellers and, unlike that box of chocolates, not a single dud. The sheer pinky-rose Pillow Talk Lip Gloss, the rich mauve Sex Machine Velvet Matte Lip Pencil and, the universally flattering peachy-pink, gold-flecked Orgasm Blush all look great on everyone.

Michael Kors is one of those fragrances that everyone adores (it has notes of tuberose, freesia, and musk.) With Love, Michael Kors, $40, is a special set of the eau de toilette and eau de parfum, plus a new EDP called Very Pretty. All three come in tiny rollerballs, perfect for taking on a romantic getaway.

A two-time Allure Best of Beauty winner, the Beauty Blender sponge makes it ridiculously easy to apply foundation and concealer flawlessly. What this has to do with Valentine’s day isn’t entirely clear. But hey, in the V-day set, you get two sponges plus a cleanser for $39.95 (that’s a savings of $10…use it to buy some roses).

Philosophy Candy Hearts Lip Duo, $20, is cute without getting all cutesy. It has two shiny lip glosses—and the champagne and angel food cake flavors are good and sweet.

Carol’s Daughter products feel both homemade and fancy. The four fragrance oils in this Love To Love You set, $36, are floral, green, and chocolate-y. Delish!
