Beautyblender in Dancing With the Stars

April 28, 2010

Technique for application is old school for Mills’ team; everything is applied by hand and brush, and the versatile pink Beauty Blender.
Designed by a makeup artist, the Beauty Blender sponge design imparts a perfect finish for foundation application. You will never use a wedge after trying this.

Makeup Bag Favourites

April 9, 2010

We all have our immediate “go to” products. Our safe haven loves that we look to daily as part of our beauty routine. As a professional Makeup Artist, I am constantly updating my inventory of brands, products and urges of discovery. After spending a good amount of time looking through the makeup kits of others, exploring through beauty stores and online, I have found a collection that is sure to please. I like a variety of different products and brands that work synergistically to create beauty in a simple fashion.  I hope you enjoy the discoveries I have made along the way.

Starting with skin is essential. Embryolisse lait-creme is a great hydrating facial cream for all skin types. It also works well under makeup. Smashbox carries an incredible face primer called Photo Finish. This primer smooths the skin to perfection. This product is ideal for everyday use and makes makeup appear more flawless. It is also great to use on clients being photographed or filmed in this generation of HDTV.

Graftobian makes a high definition cream foundation that is my favorite for photoshoots, television and daily wear. This luxurious cream can be sheered out with a bit of moisturizer on a Beauty Blender.  Set your foundation with Make Up For Ever High Definition Powder; it is out of this world! This airy powder is colorless and provides no coverage. It is simply a setting powder that is talc free. A small amount goes a long way. Use this product along with the Smashbox Photo Finish primer for impeccably smooth skin.

Cheeks should have dimention and flush, but still look natural. I enjoy Mineralize Skinfinish Natural Pressed Powder by MAC. Choose a color two shades darker than your skin and use as a bronzer or contour under your cheekbone. Highlight the high planes of the face with Strobe Cream by MAC. For a natural flush try Cremeblush by MAC on the apple of the cheeks. It leaves a slight sheen and is easy to blend. It doesn’t move about the skin like most cream products. Feel free to refresh your skin with MAC Fix+, a makeup setting spray that gives the skin a natural satin finish.

I adore Smashbox High Definition Concealer. This silky formula glides on the skin offering maximum coverage with a natural finish. This is the only concealer I have found that gives maximum coverage while appearing like natural skin. It is ideal for men’s makeup because of it’s natural appearance. I often use this as my own foundation.

Paintpots by MAC are an essential base for long wearing, well blended, non-creasing eye shadow. They can be worn alone or under eye shadow. This creamy formula gives you a good amount of playtime before it sets. Once this satiny formula sets, it provides no opportunity for creasing or movement. Great for all day into evening wear.

Shu Umera liquid liner pen is the ultimate must have liquid eyeliner. It is stark black with a sharp finish. The pen-like application allows more concise control. This is definitely worth the price!

My new favorite mascara is Zoomfast by MAC. It is a one coat, no fuss mascara that is thickening, lengthening and coats the lashes in a single solid stroke without clumping. I’m hooked!

Luscious lips are all about town. I’m obsessed with Cremesheen by MAC. This rich non-stick gloss is gorgeous. Definitely a pleasantly unique formula that finishes the lips perfectly.

Tweezerman makes my absolute favorite tools for the face. Their tweezers are the best!

I hope you find these products as phenomenal as I do! Most of these gems can be found online at the respective websites listed below. Namie’s Beauty and Nigel’s Beauty Emporium are also incredible houses of beauty that carry many of these products. Visit these locations if you prefer an experience of exploration. Happy treasure hunting!
